Railway Protection Force nab six people involved in theft

Maligaon, February 18 (MExN): The Railway Protection Force (RPF) of NF Railway while conducting regular checks and drives within the zone from February 13 to 16 apprehended six persons involved in theft of passenger’s belongings. During this check at different stations and trains, they recovered valuables worth approximately Rs 72.5 thousand from trains and railway stations at Guwahati, Dimapur, Kishanganj, Katihar, Alipurduar, New Jalpaiguri etc.

All the apprehended persons along with the recovered valuables were handed over to the respective In-charge of GRP for further legal actions.

In a recent incident on February 16 RPF of Alipurduar jointly with CPDS and CIB teams of Alipurduar conducted checking in Train No. 02517UP (Kolkata-Guwahati Special) and apprehended one person with two stolen mobile phones worth around Rs 20,000. On the same day, RPF team of Guwahati jointly with CIB team of Guwahati conducted a checking at Guwahati railway station and apprehended one person with two stolen mobile phones worth around Rs 10,000.

On February 15, RPF train escortteam of New Jalpaiguri while escorting of Train No. 15657UP (Brahmaputra Mail) and apprehended one person with two stolen mobile phones worth around Rs 9,500.

On February 14, RPF team of Katihar (East) jointly with CPDS team and GRP of  Katihar conducted a checking at Katihar railway station and apprehended one person and recovered one stolen lady purse containing cash Rs 3000. On the same day, RPF team of Kishanganj jointly with CIB team of New Jalpaiguri conducted a checking at Kishanganj railway station and apprehended one person and recovered one stolen mobile phone worth around Rs 15000.

On February 13, RPF team of Dimapur conducted a checking in Train No. 15666 DN (BG Express) at Dimapur railway station and apprehended one person and recovered one stolen mobile phone worth around Rs 15,000.


During the month of January, 2024, RPF of NFR arrested 30 persons involved in theft of passenger’s belongings and recovered 40 mobile phones, 01 laptop & cash etc., total worth around Rs 6.52 lakh.  All the apprehended persons along with the recovered valuables were handed over to the respective In-charge of GRP for further legal actions.

Sabyasachi De, Chief Public Relations Officer, NFR in a press release stated that Railway passengers can dial 139 (Toll-free) if they come across any problem during their train journey.
