Railways gear up for Ambubashi Mela

  Maligaon, June 18 (MExN): The Northeast Frontier Railway is gearing up for the extra rush of passengers expected at Guwahati and Kamakhya stations during the Ambubashi Mela which starts from June 22.     The Kamakhya station of NF Railway is expected to witness huge congregation of passengers during the mela and with this in mind, the General Manager, Chahatey Ram along with senior officials took stock of the preparedness for handling large volumes of passenger traffic at the station, a press release from the NFR informed. He instructed all concerned officials to ensure adequate arrangements for handling the large number of pilgrims during the mela from June 22 to 26, the release added.     Additional sleeper class and general second class coaches are being added to Kanchanjungha Express running from Sealdah to Guwahati/Silchar/Agartala and back, the NFR informed.     Adequate security staff at platforms, entry gates, level crossing gates and nearby railway tracks will be deployed to streamline the rush of pilgrims. Railway doctors with medical staff and ambulance will also be stationed to provide medical assistance to the pilgrims.     The approach to the Kamakhya station will be kept free from any encroachment during the period for ease of movement. Volunteers from Railway Scouts and Guides will be deployed round-the-clock to ensure smooth movement of pilgrims during boarding and de-boarding of trains.     All ticket counters (reserved/unreserved) will be manned round the clock during the mela period. Additional ticket checking team will also be installed during the period, the NFR further informed.
