
Mon, June 9 (MExN): The Village Council Chairman of Chingkao Chingnyu Village in Mon district, SC Chingkap has issued an account of the deplorable road condition in the Chen area. A letter to the authorities concerned on behalf of the public of Chen area stated that the main connectivity – PWD roads of the circle including various culverts, retaining and protection walls from Aboi Town to Chen SDO(C) HQ, Tehok junction to Chingkao-via-Wangti have been badly washed away by continuous rain and landslides without leaving any signs and trace of the roads. Thus, it said that the people of area had been cut off from other towns and villages, including District HQ, thereby leaving people in “miserable circumstances”.
The letter further pointed out that the Thranyu Irrigation Project, Septhrem Nalla of 6"ft height and 100 meters length constructed three years back has also been washed away and damaged due to heavy flood affecting ten homes of cultivators. “The flood from the rivers such as Tehok, Tesam, Hokthra and few other streams has also heavily affected hundreds of paddy cultivating households who have paddy fields in the foothills.” Besides that, the letter stated that the ongoing Tehok Mini Hydro Power House is also affected by the unbearable landslide and flood water from the rivers like Tehok and Tewoh, since water for generating electricity is drawn from these two rivers. Therefore, the citizens of Chen area have unanimously appealed to the State government and the departments concerned to initiate necessary action at the earliest.
