Rain, thunderstorms likely across Nagaland from March 28

Kohima, March 26 (MExN): The Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA), Home Department, has informed that rainfall and thunderstorm activity is expected to increase across Nagaland from March 28 onwards.

According to a press release, light rain is likely at a few places in Longleng, Mokokchung, Peren, Phek, Tseminyu and Zunheboto districts on March 28. On March 29, light to moderate rainfall is expected in several districts, including Kohima, Chümoukedima, Mokokchung and Mon, while Longleng district may experience moderate to heavy intermittent rainfall.

The NSDMA also stated that localized thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds with speeds of around 30–40 kmph may occur at various locations, particularly in Peren, Kohima and Phek districts during the forecast period.

Earlier, the authority noted that weather conditions across the state are expected to remain generally stable from March 25 to 27, with no major warnings issued. However, isolated thunderstorms accompanied by lightning may occur at a few places, particularly during the afternoon or evening hours.

In view of the forecast, the NSDMA advised the public to remain cautious during thunderstorms and lightning events. It cautioned against venturing into open fields, hilltops or taking shelter under large trees during such conditions, and urged people to secure loose outdoor objects due to the possibility of gusty winds.

The authority further urged residents to stay updated with official weather advisories and take necessary precautions to ensure safety.
