Rajya Sabha MP Abdul Salam from Manipur passes away

Newmai News Network Imphal | March 1   Rajya Sabha MP Haji Abdul Salam from Manipur passed away due to a personal illness last night at a private hospital here. He was 69. Abdul died due to ailment. He passed away after getting a short treatment at Raj Medicity.   Born on March 1, 1948 at Heibong Makhong of Thoubal district, Abdul was the Manipur’s first Muslim to become a Member of Rajya Sabha in 2014. Late Abdul, a former minister, was elected three times in Manipur assembly elections from Wabagai constituency. He was a senior Congress leader.   He Joined active politics in 1979. He also actively involved as leader of  local organizations for various developmental activities for village areas from boyhood. Abdul also worked for communal harmony, national integration, upliftment of rural and village areas in all respect, protection of downtrodden masses. He also took keen interest on the protection of ecology, especially protection of natural lakes of Manipur valley.   Meanwhile, Governor Dr Najma Heptulla, Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh, political parties and social organisations condoled his death.
