Rani Gaidinliu birth anniversary observed

Kohima, January 28 (MExN): The birth anniversary of Rani Gaidinliu was observed at Raj Bhavan, Kohima on January 26. In a press release from PRO to Governor, the Governor of Nagaland, PB Acharya and his wife, Kavita Acharya along with officers and staff of Raj Bhavan paid tribute to the freedom fighter from Nagaland on the occasion.


Secretary to Governor, Dinesh Kumar, IAS gave a brief history on the life of the freedom fighter. He stated that she was arrested 1932 at the age of 16, and was sentenced to life imprisonment by the British rulers. Rani Gaidinliu was released in 1947 after India's independence. She continued to work for the upliftment of her people and was honored as a freedom fighter and was awarded a Padma Bhushan by the Government of India, he added.
