Ranji Trophy: Goa secures 83-run victory against Nagaland

DIMAPUR, OCTOBER 29 (MExN): In a gripping Ranji Trophy match at the Panjim Gymkhana Ground, Goa emerged victorious over Nagaland by a narrow margin of 83 runs. The game, spanning over four days, saw Goa’s resilience and strategic gameplay come to the forefront as they secured a critical win in this closely contested battle.

Goa’s first innings concluded at 179 runs in 58.1 overs, led by an impressive 62 off 109 balls from Deepraj Gaonkar. Nagaland’s Raja Ranjit Swarnkar proved a challenge for Goa’s batsmen, taking 4/58 in a disciplined spell. Goa’s total set the stage for an intense match, as Nagaland responded with 147 runs in 55 overs, with Suchith J’s unbeaten 35* off 81 balls standing out. Arjun Tendulkar claimed 3/27, effectively limiting Nagaland’s pursuit.

The second innings saw Goa regrouping strongly, posting 306 runs in 92.1 overs, led by Snehal Kauthankar’s patient 75 off 152 balls. Nagaland bowlers Rongsen Jonathan and Suchith J each took four wickets, making it difficult for Goa to accelerate, but Goa managed to set a challenging target for Nagaland.

In their final innings, Nagaland put up a valiant fight, with Nischal D scoring 94 off 199 balls, anchoring the team’s chase. However, Goa’s Darshan Misal and Rahul Mehta showcased a relentless bowling display, taking 5/51 and 4/48 respectively, to ultimately dismiss Nagaland for 255 in 104.1 overs.

This victory further strengthens Goa’s standing in the Ranji Trophy, displaying a balance of solid batting and resilient bowling under pressure.
