DIMAPUR, MAY 24 (MExN): The Dimapur District and Sessions Court has sentenced the accused in the September 14, 2014 rape of a minor to life in prison. The judgment was passed by the District and Sessions Judge, Dimapur on May 24. “For the offence of rape and penetrative sexual assault committed upon a minor victim under Section 376 (2) (i) of IPC read with section 6 of POSCO Act 2012, accused Pintu Hasam is hereby convicted and sentenced to undergo rigorous imprisonment for life which shall mean imprisonment for the remainder of the accused natural life and also impose fine of Rs 1000, and in default of which shall undergo simple imprisonment for one year,” the order read. In addition to rigorous imprisonment for life, the court also recommended Rs one lakh for offence committed on rape of a minor and another Rs two lakhs for loss of life, totaling to Rs three lakhs to be handed over to the parents of the deceased. The accused person’s statement, which was read out in court, confessed to raping the minor girl of 9 years old on September 14, 2014; after which he strangled the victim to death.
