
DIMAPUR SEPT 24 (MExN): The Chairman of Henito Village Council has informed that the alleged rape incident which happened on September 15 between Nokuti and Rengmapani has been settled between the parties involved after a payment of Rs 1500.
The Chairman, Howoto, in a press release denied that any rape took place. According to him, the youths were returning back from Nokuti to Rengmapani in an inebriated condition “in joy and jolly mood”. For this reason the chairman denied that an attempt to rape was made “as the youths of both sex were in joy and gaiety mood”.
It also maintained that “nothing whatsoever was done on that occasion without the consent of the other and no one whomsoever objected or interrupted in such gaiety occasion”. However the chairman, referring to the aftermath of the alleged incident, stated that one of the girls Grace Khing complained of rape to her Village authorities of Longwensunyu which later summoned the other party, Vekheto. They appeared before the Village authority of Longwensunyu on September 20.
After the hearing from both sides before the village councils of their respective villages, the matter was settled after imposing a fine of Rs 1500 accepted by the family of Grace Khing and others present “leaving no enmity among the parties involved. The release requested that the customary law under which the matter was settled be accepted by all.
