RD block Kohima observes birth anniversary of Dr. Ambedkar

Our Correspondent Kohima | April 21   The Rural Development (RD) Block Kohima today celebrated the 125th birth anniversary of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar-cum- National Panchayat Day here at Kohima Village Council (KVC) hall.   Konei Nakhro, assistant professor, department of Political Science, Kohima College spoke on the life of Dr. B.R Ambedkar and the significance of the 73rd Amendment 1992 which brought into force the Panchayati Raj to promote rural development, foster farmers’ welfare and enhance the livelihood of the poor.

  Dr. B.R.Ambedkar, popularly known as Babasaheb Ambedkar, was one of the architects of the Indian Constitution.   He was a well-known politician and an eminent jurist. Ambedkar’s effort to eradicate the social evils like untouchability and caste restrictions were remarkable.   The leader, throughout his life, fought for the rights of the downtrodden and other socially backward classes.   He was appointed as the Nation’s first law minister after Independence. He was posthumously awarded the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian honour in 1990.   “Dr. Ambedkar’s thoughts and ideas are of even greater relevance in the context of today’s resurgent India which is poised for a stronger economy, industrial diversification and skill development, empowerment of women and guarantee for the socially vulnerable classes, a world of equal opportunities,” stated a brochure brought out jointly by social welfare and RD department Nagaland.   Chairing the programme, Vihesanuo Solo, Block Development Officer (BDO), Kohima congratulated the Kohima village for having been declared as one of the best performing VDB’s in the district.   She also encouraged them to continue with the good works for the welfare of the people.   Nokcharenla Longchar, DPO, social welfare department and Imnatuba Jamir, JE, Kohima Block, RD department made presentation of the departmental activities.   Kohima Village Council (KVC) chairman Medoselhou Keretsü shared greetings while Ruokuoneisa, VDB Member Kohima Village highlighted the village activities.   Village Council members, VDB members, representatives from KVGOK, KMK, KVYO, KVSU, GB’s of different Khels and elders from Kohima village attended the programme. The programme concluded with vote of thanks proposed by Imkongsangla Jamir.
