Kohima, February 18 (MExN): President of the Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC), K Therie, has stated that the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 (CAB) is “with intent to grant citizenship to illegal immigrants and to counter NRC.”
“We have well understood the ill-conceived idea which is with intent to submerge the identity of North East’s indigenous inhabitants,” stated Therie in a press release in response to Amit Shah’s statement in Guwahati on February 17 that the BJP will pass the CAB if given an opportunity.
The NPCC termed this “a challenge and insult to the North East states.” He called for all North East “likeminded political parties, political leaders” to “rise above political boundaries to defend North East from the draconian law.”
“It is time we realign to defend the land that is made for you and for me. Personal ambition should not stand on the way against the interests of the North East,” he concluded.
