Reasons for Kohima killing demanded from NSCN-IM

Dimapur, Jan 14 (MExN): In the wake of the Kohima January 12 killing of two Konyak youths by the NSCN-IM, Lok Sabha Member of Parliament W Wangyuh Konyak states that misconstruing the NSCN-K to the Konyak community is ‘totally wrong’. Relatively, the Konyak Union (Kohima) and the Konyak Nyupuh Sheko Khong (KNSK) –  while demanding from the NSCN-IM that reasons for the killing be published – has also strongly warned that failure to do so would be assumed that Konyaks are being targeted by the faction in the name of the Naga movement.

In a press note, MP Konyak expressed shock to learn of the killing of “two of my innocent boys”. “I strongly condemn such kind of barbaric killing. All the times misinterpretation of NSCN (K) into Konyak is completely wrong because there are many Konyaks in both the factions” the MP stated. He appeals to the concern authority to punish the culprit (s).

In a separate release, the Konyak Union (Kohima) and the KNSK, strongly maintained that the two youths killed – Pongjai and Phopa (both from Chingkao Chingnyu village under Mon) – were innocent, mere wage-earners who were not involved with any anti-social elements and neither belonged to any underground faction. “The KUK and the KNSK demand from the NSCN-IM to publish the reasons for killing of Late Pongjai and Late Phopa. If they do not come out with the details and clear reasons for the killing, the Konyak Union Kohima would assume that our Konyak tribe is targeted by the faction in the name of Naga political issue (and) we do not accept such act” stated a note signed by KUK and KNSK executives.
