Recognise and honour legitimate rights of Nagas: Tangkhul body to Manipur Govt

Newmai News Network Ukhrul | April 11   The Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) has urged the Government of Manipur "to recognise and honour the legitimate rights of the Nagas to integrate all contiguous Naga areas” and to extend all possible support "towards expediting the ongoing peace process and solution of the long-drawn Indo-Naga political imbroglio in the interest of all concerned."   This was one of the points included in the memorandum of Tanghul Naga Long (TNL) submitted today to Chief Minister Biren Singh during the latter's visit to Ukhrul.   In the memorandum the apex Tangkhul body said that "by God’s grace, on August 3, 2015 the Government of India and the NSCN had signed the ‘Framework Agreement’ answering the prayers and yearning of the Naga people for the last 70 years to end the protracted war between the Government of India and the Nagas where thousands of lives have been lost on both sides leaving behind many orphans and widows".   “Thus every citizen look forward to a final solution at the earliest. We, therefore, appeal to the Government of Manipur to recognise and honour the legitimate rights of the Nagas to integrate all contiguous Naga areas and to extend all possible support towards expediting the ongoing peace process and solution of the long-drawn Indo-Naga political imbroglio in the interest of all concerned,” TNL said in its memorandum.   It also urged the Chief Minister to roll back the newly created districts by the previous government which was done without adhering to the Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) signed between the Government of Manipur and Naga organisations, "besides the assurance given by the Government of india in this regard and above all the execution order of the previous government has violated the Constitution under Article 371(C)."   The memorandum to the Chief Minister further urged that the recent state cabinet’s decision to “militarise” Naga areas on the pretext of National Highways protection be reviewed.
