Dimapur, October 31 (MExN): The Naga People’s Front (NPF) led by Neiphiu Rio today stated that the chapter of reconciliation, which was extended to its rival group led by Dr. Shürhozelie Liezietsu, is closed.
“It is quite unfortunate that our rival group has made a mockery of our humble reconciliation initiatives and regrettably we hereby inform our party men and women, supporters, sympathizers that the reconciliation chapter is closed,” stated a press release from the Press & Information Cell of NPF.
The party mentioned that an olive branch for reconciliation was extended to its rival group based on the resolutions adopted during the consultative meeting of ‘NPF Central Office/ NPF Legislature Party’ on October 24 in Kohima.
“Unfortunately, our splinter group…not only out rightly rejected our offer but scorned and miffed the majority and ruling NPF party initiatives to reconcile with high sounding phrases.” The reconciliation offers, it said, were based on the principles of ECI directives dated 27.03.2015 and 17.10.2017.
“As a political party, we take serious note of any internal strife. Our job is purely to work for the welfare of our people,” the release added.
Stating that it has no control over what the Election Commission of India will say over the present NPF imbroglio, it said the final verdict will soon come. “We have tried all channels to extend our friendship to our friends and family members who are in the wrong side not because of any fear but because we are strong,” it maintained.
The Rio-led NPF was “saddened” that a great opportunity has been lost because of the rival group “totally rejecting our initiative to amend.” It further requested the other group to wait for ECI to give its judgment.
