Defining music as a very powerful medium of expression which facilitates communication beyond words, the Additional Chief Secretary of Nagaland, Alemtemshi Jamir, IAS, at the opening of the music house ‘Furtados’ in Dimapur today said “despite growth of music in the state there is still a gap of communication with the common man.”
Jamir said it is time for Naga musicians to see how far they can go in contributing to the society and hailing them no less than international musicians.
At a time when Nagas are reeling under fear of threat, corruption, crime and political turmoil, Jamir urged musicians to use music as an effective tool to address issues that Nagas are confronting. “Musicians can take a big lead and create an impact in society,” and encouraged them to redefine the music of Nagaland.
Jamir, who genuinely expressed happiness at the way Nagas are progressing, said he is encouraged to see the dimensions in which music is taking over the state today. “It is a very good omen,” Jamir said. On the sidelines, he pointed out that the government is taking measures to promote music and artists in the state so that it can become an option of livelihood for many. The government has proposed that music must be taken as an industry and allow musicians to contribute to the economy, Jamir said.
Calling it a landmark for the people of Nagaland and particularly for music lovers, Jamir, an ardent lover of music, hailed the opening of India’s leading music house ‘Furtados’ in Dimapur. He hoped the opening of the music store will cater to the need of musicians and others.
Furtados is a leading musical instrument retailer and distributor in India. It is a 141 year old firm having outlets across the country.
