DIMAPUR, MARCH 9 (MExN): “The main injustice done to the Naga people by modern India is the division of their land without their knowledge and consent.” Voicing these words during the Motion of Thanks to the Presidential Address on March 7, Outer Manipur MP, Mani Charenamai, drove his point that leaders of the country, irrespective of Parties, need to come out with strong political will to right the wrong done, so as to win back the confidence of the Naga people.
Taking note that the President had made no mention of reorganization of States “which is very much required in the North-Eastern States,” Mani said that in the case of the Nagas, the State boundaries have violated their rights to live together. “The Naga movement has affected and marginalized millions of Naga people in the North East.”
Emphatically stating that the Naga movement is “not at all a terrorist movement” but a people’s movement against injustice meted on them since pre-Independence perpetuated till today, Charenamai said a new leash of life would be given to the Naga people if an amicable solution is arrived at from the ongoing talks between the Centre and the NSCN (I-M).
