Reference book on theological edu and ecumenism released

Dimapur, June 4 (MExN): A classic reference book on Asian Handbook on Theological Education and Ecumenism was released on May 17, 2013 at Jakarta, Indonesia by the General Secretary of World Council of Churches (WCC), Dr. Olav Fykse Tveit.  

The book is edited by Dr. Wati Longchar (India), Dr. Hope Antone (Philippines), Hyunju Bae (S. Korea), Huang Po Ho (Taiwan) and Dietrich Werner (Germany).  Dr. Ery Hutarabat Lebang, the General Secretary of Christian Conference of Asia (CCA) chaired the book launching function. 

Dr. Olav said, “It is a milestone achievement in the history of Asian ecumenical movement. All the Asians must be proud of this achievement.”  While thanking the editors, Dr. Ery said, “This is one of the happiest moments for the churches in Asia. The long dream desires Asian ecumenical leaders is now fulfilled.” 

Dr. Longchar who was present at the launching function said that the editorial team worked for two years to produce the volume. It contains 82 articles written by Asian scholars. This 715 pages volume contains various contemporary political, economic, cultural, ecological and religious problems and challenges in Asia today; and the churches’ response to those challenges.  Dr. Longchar said that the book is printed in five countries – India, England, Myanmar, Indonesia and S. Korea. He thanked all the contributors for their scholarly contribution. Dr. Longchar mentioned that four Nagas have contributed their article in the volume.  This was stated in a press release issued by Dr. L. Imsutoshi Jamir, Dean, Tribal Study Centre, Eastern Theological College, Jorhat.
