Referral Hospital or Christian Institute of Health Sciences and Research (CIHSR) will start admitting patients by mid-2007 in small numbers once the first phase of the ongoing development work is completed.
Administrative Officer of CIHSR, S Varadharajan said that by around the last week of May or first week of June, a 220-bedded facility will be opened for patients. He said the hospital will have nine departments with senior doctors from CMC Vellore on long deputation to the state. Varadharajan also informed that the only remaining part of the phase-one work is completion of family quarters and then, the finishing touch to the hospital. Doctors’ family quarters was necessitated because the CMC has a rule that doctors must live in the hospital campus, so that they can attend to patients anytime, said the hospital’s administrative officer.
Meanwhile, the CIHSR is being developed on a war-footing with nearly three hundred laborers engaged in the work, which is being supervised by the CMC along with local contractors as well as three foreign experts who volunteered to assist.
The first phase, which costs around Rs 17 crore of the Rs 45 crore project, includes family quarters, a 220 bedded hospital, sewage and drainage system, electricity etc. The ambitious CIHSR project, if completed, is expected to be one of the ‘best’ hospitals in the North East region of India.
