KOHIMA, October 25 (MExN): The three-day refresher training of Nagaland Para-Legal Volunteers (PLVs) organised by Nagaland State Legal Services Authority (NSLSA) is underway at Directorate of State Institute of Rural Development, Kohima. The training which began on October 25 will end on October 27.
Delivering the inaugural address, Justice LS Jamir, Judge, Gauhati High Court and Executive Chairman NSLSA said the training is made in such a way that the various activities are pertinent towards the various schemes of National State Legal Services Authority, especially with the participation of various nodal departments.
Describing the PLVs as the backbone of the State Legal Services Authority, Justice LS Jamir mentioned that the important function of PLV is to reach out to the grassroots. He therefore urged the PLVs not to wait for opportunities but to go ahead on how to help the underprivileged section of the society.
Nino Iralu, Member Secretary, NSLSA and Special Judge TDP Vigilance Commission in the keynote address lauded the attendance of the PLVs from far flung villages and districts in the training. She apprised that PLVs based in all corners of the districts are into the preventive measures for the marginalised and weaker section of the society by creating awareness and sensitizing people on legal rights and privileges.
Iralu said that in the refresher training the focus will be on what best measures could be taken up for various constitutional rights and welfare schemes. She also informed that nodal departments with their experience in various fields would be coming in the three days training.
The Member Secretary stated the resource people will share on the various schemes and privileges. Thus, she urged the PLVs to identify their role and how best they can assist people who do not know the existence of various rights.
This was followed by session I, II and II, where Rupin Sharma, IPS, Director of Prison Nagaland spoke on administrative law and legal interface; Dr. Khriezotup Paphino, Deputy Director, Directorate of Health and Family Welfare spoke on various health programmes; Er. Nungshiyanger Aier, Labour Commissioner Department of Labour Nagaland spoke on construction workers welfare scheme with special emphasis on the Social Security Act.
Raitale Zeliang, Programme Manager, State Child Protection Society, Nagaland spoke on PLVs as agent for child rights with emphasis on RTE & child marriage and Juliana Medom, Assistant State Coordinator, State Resource Centre for Women Nagaland spoke on plans, policies and programme for empowerment of women.
