Rebel diktat has no
impact in Shillong

SHILLONG, May 9 (TNN): The diktat of Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) for a four-day shutdown of the state, central government offices and financial institutions had no impact on Thursday. Offices remained open in the Khasi and Jaintia Hills and attendance was normal. However, financial organizations of the Mawlai locality remained closed. HNLC wanted to pressure the government to release Hynniewtrep A'chik National Movement president Lamphrangsngi Kharbani and four others, arrested recently by the police for their alleged links with the banned outfit. Extra forces were deployed in different junctions of Shillong to ensure that office goers don't face trouble in going to work.
