Rejoinder to ASRU surprise checking

In the matter of the Akuluto Range Students’ Union who undertook a surprise checking of all the government offices in Aluluto Town, published on the 28th of July 2006 in a local daily and again in another local daily on the 8th of August 2006, I the undersigned hereby furnish the following rejoinder in order to make every reader know the facts of the actual functions of the government servants.

The very word “irregular” cannot be measured easily at a glance to anything; but the matter lies under the matter of duties and assignments of the officials etc. the value of administration in any form cannot be measured in terms of numerical numbers; hence the very word “zero” does not arise. After assuming the charge of headmaster by me since 28/02/03, I found that there was maximum satisfaction and co-operation among the staff. This school has brought out the best results of HSLC exams in 2006 since its inception in 1967, which is one of the best HSLC results among the Government High schools in the state. In this regard the ARSU should appreciate it rather than blame and wound the sentiments of the noble process.

It is also a fact that every govt servant has a provision of availing various kinds of leave including C.L, E.L, and E.O.L etc. Besides, the staff are also assigned to perform or attend to different duties such as; official duties to DEO, DSE, NBSE, SCERT and also attending various other trainings etc. As human beings, the staff too falls ill sometimes. Therefore, all the staff cannot be present cent per cent at one time daily. Thus, nobody, no organization should blame any govt servants by simply branding them “irregular”.

The school authority does not have any authority to publish and distribute any kinds of text books. It is common knowledge that it has been nearly two decades that the department is not publishing MIL (Sumi) text books. However, the classes and examinations have been conducted successfully so far.

In regard to the carpentry classes, for nearly two decades the department has not provided any tools, implements etc. Hence, the incumbent concerned is engaged in other official duties Viz, SUPW classes, collection of SUPW materials, repair of school property and other school duties. Therefore, nobody should blame the staff without knowing the actual facts and work assignment policy.

We understand our duties allotted and we never object and refuse any suggestions and corrections given by the departmental Supervising Officers who are appointed and authorized by the govt. We are however not happy with those unauthorized and untrained people who come to check us and start pointing fingers without knowing what really goes on behind the scenes.
Lastly everybody must realize that surprise checking to any govt offices or establishments is illegal unless and until it is from the Vigilance department which is the only competent and authorized agency to carry out checking.

To avoid any misunderstandings or unwanted political motivations among the citizens and in our teaching faculty and learning process, in the future no such things should occur so as to avoid any unwanted confrontations. Let us begin to understand each other better in the interest of the students’ community in particular and the Akuluto area in general.

Hukato Sema,
Headmaster GHS, Akuluto
