Remain steadfast in faith: Rev Dr Chingmak urges OTC graduates

Oriental Theological College (OTC), Yangli marked a milestone on Thursday as it graduated 32 students during its annual commencement ceremony held at Centre Baptist Church, Mission Centre, Yangli.

The ceremony signified the close of one chapter and the beginning of another for the graduating class, witnessed by families, faculty, staff, Board of Directors, USBLA staff and pastors. 

The programme was led by Assistant Professor Ghovukhu Aye V, with a call to worship and invocation offered by Pastor Rupa of Phir Ahir Baptist Church. A welcome address was delivered by Imkongsenla of the OTC Board of Directors, who invited attendees to celebrate the achievements of the graduates. Scripture readings from the Old and New Testaments were led by Assistant Professors Samuel and Thsarola, while the B.Th. II class presented a song titled “Here I Am Lord.”

The ceremony also featured the release of the college’s annual magazine and journal by Rev Imti, Executive Secretary of USBLA.

Delivering the commencement address, Rev Dr Chingmak, Secretary of Eleutheros Christian Society, urged graduates to view their journey as more than an academic achievement, drawing from biblical references to the life of Joseph. He encouraged them to remain steadfast in faith, uphold truth and serve others with commitment. The address concluded with a prayer of blessing for the graduating class.

Diplomas were conferred by Board Chairman T Kirithong Sangtam, while Academic Dean L Hopichum read out the names of the graduates. Principal Dr C Chemtingla Sangtam officiated the turning of tassels, marking their transition into alumni. Awards were presented by members of the Board.

Speaking on behalf of the graduating class, Lichumla reflected on their shared journey, acknowledging challenges overcome and lessons learned. Emphasizing resilience, she noted that it is not merely a concept but the ability to adapt, grow and succeed despite obstacles, while expressing gratitude to faculty and the college community.

The graduating class also presented a song of commitment before the ceremony concluded with a closing prayer by C. Nancy Sangtam, Christian Education Secretary of USBLA.

The event marked a record for OTC, Yangli, with the highest number of graduates in the college’s history.
