A remarkable evening of theater!

Morung Express News Dimapur | March 30   “We must all do theater to find out who we are, and to discover who we could become” the anchor quoted Augusto Boal before the start of “Seek The Lost”, a drama staged at the Covenant Hall, Christian Higher Secondary School, Dimapur.   This rare evening of theater in Dimapur is an initiative of National School of Drama (NSD), New-Delhi in collaboration with Unity College of Teacher Education (UCTE) & Nagaland Theater Fraternity (NTF). The biblical story was also made fun by blending the story with brief musical performances and humour. The set was also designed and utilized very well, and overall the show far exceeded expectations.   Kesonyu Yhome, D.C Dimapur who was the chief guest expressed that he was particularly happy with the kind of emphasis given to theater, which was previously ignored by the educational system in the past. He opined, “We talk about movies, animation but one of the profession which is largely ignored but has huge potential and scope is theater. We can make a lot of discovery involving ourselves by becoming a fan of theater.”   [caption id="attachment_261366" align="alignnone" width="720"](Photo by Manen Aier) (Photo by Manen Aier)[/caption]   “Those of you who are particularly involved in theater will know that irrespective of the nature of theater- be it tragedy, comedy, drama it has a lot of connection with the real world. It does not exist in vacuum but they are a reflection of the society we live in. this is the beauty of theater,” he said.   “The message I would wish to put across to students particularly this evening is that there’s a huge profession lying in theater. Our mindsets have been largely confined in seeking the routine professions but theater a serious business and there’s a huge scope to take this up as a profession. I urge each one of you to take it up seriously,” he stated.   Earlier before the show, it was informed that NSD had organised theater workshop along with 28 students of B.ed with V.Uto Chishi as camp director. Nagaland Theater Fraternity (NTF) was formed in the year 2002 by likeminded youths after completion of 45 days production oriented residential theater workshop organised by NSD in collaboration with NEZCC, Dimapur. NTF is the first theater NGO formed in Nagaland initiated by Ikato Y.Kiho, founder president of NTF and has produced some noted plays. UCTE is one of the prestigious colleges established in the year 2012 with the vision to foster a sense of discipline and single minded dedication to work.
