DIMAPUR, JUNE 3 (MExN): The Rengma frontal organizations on Saturday condemned the May 27 action where in the Naga Club office was demolished in the wee hours, the action of which was owned up later by the Naga Club.
A joint statement issued by Rengma Hoho, Rengma Selo Zi and Rengma Mother’s Association said the good image of the Naga Club has been tarnished by the wee hour incident of May 27. It said “this act has not only shattered the good image of Naga Club, but has done irreparable damage to the trust we repose on Naga Club.”
“According to Rengma tradition, when we by anger destroy our own property, it is a taboo to re-use it. Unless there is an ulterior motive, one will never destroy one’s own property; and so, according to Rengma tradition, the people who demolished the Naga Club building have committed a crime,” it went to state.
The joint statement also said the NSF has been safekeeping numerous official and historical documents of the Nagas and therefore anyone destroying those irreplaceable records that belong to all Nagas is condemnable.
It further opined that the “foundation of Naga polity laid down by the Naga Club should not be pulled down by few people who do not adhere to the core principles of yesteryears Naga Club.”
Therefore, in order to let goodwill prevail among Nagas, the joint statement asserted that the Rengma people will not be a party to the destruction of the building and the properties housed under it.
