
DIMAPUR, FEBRUARY 13 (MExN): The Rengma Mothers’ Association held its Executive meeting on January 31, 2008 at its Headquarter Tseminyu Town. The house deliberated on various issues presently confronting the Nagas in general and the Rengmas in particular with serious concerned. The press release issued by the RMA Executives stated that in all seriousness and resentment, had discussed and resolved to check the unprecedented inflow of Alcohol and Drugs in its area. The Mothers’ demanded that the State Government to strictly enforce the total Prohibition Act in letter and spirit.
The Rengma Mothers’ Association further demanded permission to check vehicles passing through Rengma Area of National Highway –61 since there are many evidences where Alcohol and Drugs are being supplied by the peddlers and abusers while crossing the area in their own vehicles.
The Association strongly felt that absence of the excise and narcotic department in the Sub-Division Headquarter is the main reason of uncontrolled flow and therefore, demanded the State Government to look into it immediately.
Reaffirming to its earlier resolution taken on February 3, 2007 on Alcohol and Drugs affecting its people and creating havoc and social evils, the association organized a procession against the same on the 7th of February 2008, where about 1600 Mothers attended the said procession. The dignitaries who spoke at the procession meeting, are Gwasolo Kent, Chairperson Tseminyu Town Council, Kegwanye Kent, President Rengma G.B’s Association, Gwasüle Thyü, President Kasha Group Mothers Association and the meeting was chaired by Kelesha Kath, President RMA.
