Tseminyu, April 16 (MExN): The Rengma Mothers' Association (RMA) today maintained that rising and pervasive social evils are “threatening” Tseminyu District and called for collaborative action to check the menaces.
Drawing the attention of the Deputy Commissioner, Tseminyu, to what it termed the “alarming rise and devastating impact of severe social evils” within the district, the RMA, in a memorandum, stated that these activities are eroding the social fabric, endangering children, corrupting youth, and jeopardising the future of the entire community.
Issues including, but not limited to, child abuse, child molestation, rampant drug abuse, pervasive alcoholism, and other associated anti-social activities are casting a dark shadow over the community, severely hampering the well-being of Naga society at large and posing a direct threat to the Rengma community in particular, it added.
The sanctity of homes and the safety of children are under threat, and the cycle of addiction and despair caused by substance abuse is creating deep wounds that will affect generations to come if not addressed with utmost urgency and resolve, stated the RMA’s memorandum submitted to the DC Tseminyu after a peaceful awareness rally on April 16.
According to the association, the rally was held to galvanise community awareness and action against the crisis, serve as a collective voice against “destructive forces,” foster greater awareness among all residents, and implore every individual and authority to give serious, critical thought to these pressing issues.
The RMA said that the eradication of such social evils is not merely a task for the administration or specific organisations but requires the conscious effort and participation of every member of society.
The memorandum is a solemn appeal from the mothers of the Rengma community to the District Administration to recognise the gravity of this situation and to move forward decisively, it said.
Accordingly, the RMA urged the District Administration for a genuine partnership and to work hand-in-hand with the association and other concerned citizens to combat these menaces effectively.
It also appealed to the administration to give this matter the highest priority and to formulate and implement robust strategies aimed at removing the sources of social destruction from the district.
“Our primary, urgent focus is on proactive intervention, stringent control measures, and preventative strategies,” it elaborated.
Thus, the RMA sought the administration's active participation and leadership, as well as tangible steps towards curbing these activities at their source and fostering an environment where such evils cannot thrive.
“The future peace, prosperity, and moral health of Tseminyu District and the Rengma community depend on our collective resolve and immediate action,” stated the memorandum appended by RMA President Margareth Wanth Tep and General Secretary Elizabeth Kemp.
