DIMAPUR, SEPT 23 (MExN): The Rengma Students’ Union (RSU) has condemned in the strongest term the rape and murder attempt on Grace Khing daughter of Ndayhun Khing on September 15 at Niuland area by one Vekheto, son of Hesto who is a head GB of Hinito village.
A press communiqué issued by RSU Speaker Kenneth Kath and President Zentilo Tep termed the incident ‘most shameful’ and inhuman which was least expected from such a person and from someone who was regarded and treated as a father figure, even in age. The student body has pointed out that this is not the first incident to happen and cited an earlier incident when one Alo R Kent, an Architectural Engineer was severely beaten up without any rhyme or reason by one Khekaho Sumi, a DMC member.
The RSU called upon all right thinking citizens to condemn such an inhuman and shameless act which it said had no place in our society. “As it was not only a case of rape but also an attempt to murder, we vehemently condemn the incident”, the RSU stated.
The RSU has urged the authorities concerned to take up the case immediately and ensure that strict, punitive and exemplary action be taken against Vekheto. The RSU stated clearly that there was no more ground for negotiation, compromise and ‘no more ground for forgive and forget’. The RSU further appealed to the Western Sumi Hoho to ensure that justice is carried out and that the wrong is punished so that there is no ill feeling and that no untoward incident may occur in future. And that peace and harmony may prevail between the two tribes.
