Tseminyu, February 8 (MExN): Terogvunyu Village, one of Rengma tribe's oldest villages in Tseminyu District celebrated Renshü Ka or Morung Day on February 7.
A press release stated that this event is observed every 5 years which brings together three ancestral khels of the village including Günnyonyu, Jühünyu and Lopinyu, to commemorate and celebrate their age-old traditions and heritage.
This festival is a unique celebration that helps the villagers of the different clans in the khels to come together, pay tribute to the fore-fathers, acknowledge their customs and traditions by participating in all community works of the day, instill pride and rebuild the strong community bonds that existed in the bygone days, the release said.
The organizers stated that Terogvunyu village is among the few villages, if not the only one, in Tseminyu District to honour and celebrate the institution of Morung.
“The Renshü day is also a time to ascertain the male strength of the three khels making it compulsory for all male members (young and old) to register and participate; it is also an event where all members come to encourage each other, introspect and prepare the khel members to face challenges in the future.”
As per tradition, the three khels renovated and rebuilt their respective Renshü (Morung) and invited all their sisters and brother-in-laws.
The day was marked by recitations of folklores and folk-songs, recalling of significance of Morung and old ways of life by the elders of the khels, exchange of provisions between the three khels, traditional procession which finally culminated with the community feast in their respective Morungs.
Er Abija Khing, Kegwalo Thyug, Logvubu Semp and Ar. Logus Semp were among those who spoke on the day in the different Morungs.
