Republic Day: Governor Bhalla stresses Nagaland’s role in nation-building

Nagaland Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla on Monday underscored Nagaland’s contribution to India’s democratic and developmental journey, calling on the people of the State to actively align local priorities with the nation’s larger vision as the country celebrate the 77th Republic Day on January 26.

In his address to the State’s citizens on the eve of celebration, Governor Bhalla the occasion marked not only the adoption of the Constitution in 1950 but also India’s collective commitment to the ideals of justice, liberty, equality and fraternity.

He noted that for Nagaland, Republic Day is a reminder of how its unique traditions, customary practices and cultural diversity strengthen the federal and democratic fabric of the nation.

Referring to the national themes of this year’s celebrations -Vande Mataram, marking the 150th anniversary of the national song, and Atmanirbhar Bharat, Bhalla said Nagaland’s unity in diversity mirrors the spirit of the Indian Republic.

He stressed that the State’s people, cultures and institutions contribute to preserving India’s pluralistic identity while moving towards self-reliance and inclusive growth.

The Governor highlighted Nagaland’s role in sustainable development, stating that the State’s rich biodiversity and ecological heritage place it at the centre of India’s climate action and green growth commitments. 

As the country moves towards its centenary of Independence in 2047, he said development in Nagaland must remain people-centric and environment-friendly, contributing to national goals on renewable energy and conservation.

On governance and economic participation, Bhalla pointed to the impact of Digital India in Nagaland, noting that expanding digital connectivity is enabling local youth, artisans, farmers and entrepreneurs to engage with national and global markets, thereby strengthening the State’s contribution to the national economy.

Emphasising Nari Shakti, the Governor said women in Nagaland have long been central to social harmony, cultural continuity and economic life. Enhancing education, skills and opportunities for women, he said, would not only empower the State but also advance India’s broader development agenda.

The Governor also stressed the importance of rural development in Nagaland, noting that strong and self-reliant villages form the foundation of a prosperous nation. He said investments in rural infrastructure, agriculture, entrepreneurship and digital services in the State directly support India’s goal of inclusive growth.

Calling Nagaland’s youth key partners in nation-building, Bhalla said their innovation, creativity and energy in fields ranging from technology and startups to sports and public service are contributing to the momentum of a New India. He urged collective efforts to nurture young talent and provide platforms for leadership and innovation.

The Governor concluded noting that Nagaland’s traditions and constitutional values together reinforce India’s unity and democratic strength.

He also paid tribute to the architects of the Constitution and freedom fighters, and called on the people of the State to renew their commitment to democracy, harmony and service to the nation .
