Dimapur, January 23 (MExN): Two MSW (Master of Social Work) trainees of North East Institute of Social Science and Research (NEISSR) in collaboration with YouthNet’s Dimapur based Nagaland Job Centre (NJC) conducted a research/survey on unemployment recently.
Besides spreading awareness on the importance of dignity of labor and employment in the private sector, the research/survey carried out by Longngan K Phom and Tumchobeni Kithan aimed to encourage youths to give importance even to the private sector and also share about NJC.
The survey was carried out in a total of 171 households covering nine colonies – Purana Bazar, Lake View, Nepali Gaon, Midland, Khermahal, Chakhesang colony, Chümoukedima-Seithekima, Hill View, and Industrial Village Razhüphe.
A statement from Tumchobeni Kithan mentioned that out of the 171 households, only 27 people were interested to work in the private sector “which is quite depressing”.
Attributing the lack of dignity of labor as one of the reasons for unemployment in Nagaland, the statement lamented, “The Naga youths in spite of knowing the need of a job for day-to-day living most of us do not have the heart for working for even a couple of hours, especially in the private sector.”
It pointed out the limited number of jobs that the State government can provide in a year and urged to “believe in dignity of labor and give importance even in the private sector.”
The statement said that NJC focuses on career planning and development, dignity of labor, jobs and employment in the private sector and various development trainings.
