KVYO draws line of reserved parking and market monopolisation
KOHIMA, JUNE 6 (MExN): The Kohima Village Youth Organisation (KVYO) has issued a public warning against the unauthorised placement of ‘reserve parking’ signage by shop owners in and around public and market areas in the capital.
In a press release, KVYO expressed serious concern over what it described as a growing and unacceptable trend of shopkeepers illegally marking public spaces as private parking spots. “Public roads and parking areas are not private property,” the organisation said, adding that any form of unauthorised demarcation, signage, or obstruction will be viewed seriously.
The youth body reminded all concerned that public space usage is governed by civic norms and not individual interests. “Such actions violate the principle of equal access and inconvenience the general public,” it stated.
Alongside the parking issue, KVYO also reiterated its long-standing opposition to market monopolisation within Kohima’s municipal limits. It cautioned individuals and organisations against promoting practices that undermine fair competition and restrict opportunities for small-scale vendors.
“The monopolisation of the market perpetuates a syndicate system,” the release stated, “which negatively affects local businesses and consumers alike.” KVYO affirmed its commitment to a competitive and inclusive marketplace, calling on the business community to uphold ethical trade practices and resist exploitative systems.
The organisation urged members of the public and business entities to contact its office for any clarification or to report grievances related to market manipulation or misuse of public spaces.
