Response to former advisors’ statement

In response to a statement of former advisors of Dimapur Municipal Council that appeared in local dailies on August 29, I as a concerned citizen would like to share my point of view on the matter.

To talk about the achievement of the former advisors, it may also be mentioned that it is in the knowledge of the general public that two nos. of vehicle used as official cars by the former advisors which was taken away by the former advisors at the time of relinquishing from their assignment have not been returned to DMC till date and also it was the activities of the former advisors that invited the vigilance team to conduct investigation in the affairs of the DMC.

Why is the DMC not able to pay its staff salary in time? As per my observation, DMC is a public office which runs on revenue generated mostly from toll tax but the government has been kind enough to ban the tolls collection of DMC which has greatly affected DMC’s revenue generation. Little income that comes from sanitation, house rent collection and trade license is too meager to cover the staff salary. DMC, since its inception as DTC has been collecting tolls fees as per the act of the municipal but it is most unfortunate that state’s Chief Secretary has branded DMC as an organization and has banned the tolls fee thereby snapping the income of the DMC.
