•-Recently I came by a city bus from BOC to Razhü point Kohima and some of us gave Rs. 10 (due to no Rs. 5 change) to the bus conductor as he collected the fare .While getting down from bus I asked Rs 5 back, interestingly the Mini bus conductor reluctantly replied me “You get next time” hearing that made me to said “sathi Eto nahobo kineka log pabo aro ?” (Friend that’s not ok how can we meet again?) Any sensible person won’t agree to the unknown person in this case. Will he (conductor) agree while collecting fare if any passenger said he/she don’t have change and asked to take next time? Again irritably he said “I am not the Rs. 5 manufacturer how can I give to every passenger?” Hearing that sentence made me annoyed and tries to make him understand his wrong attitude. Without saying much word I took Rs. 10 back and went away but my mood was spoilt and asked question to myself, why this happen? Just before this accident I saw some passengers getting down from the same bus half way (who gave Rs. 10) without getting Rs.5 back after talking to the conductor most probably asking the Rs.5 back but he might have replied the same as he did to me. I thought to myself had they take back Rs.5 I won’t have argument with him. It doesn’t mean that I can’t pay the amount but it would be a habit in future too. Initially when the Mini bus fare in Kohima town was revised from Rs.2-4 if get down half way no one fail to asked back Re.1 but now no body bother it and pay Rs.5 and if somebody asked, it seems to be odd and don’t get also as it already used to be.
Recently another argument with one of the meat sellers in Kohima as I got only 830 grams from 1 kg of pork (Rs.120/kg i.e 170 grams less approx. =Rs. 20 worth). I appealed the concern authority to check this kind of practices in and around Kohima town. On the other side if the meat sellers go deficit selling with correct weighing, the authority should look to it and do needful things because there will be no businessmen if their business go lost, then everyone will be suffered. But it is better to buy meat with higher price with correct weighing than lower price with cheated weighing.
Another instance I argued with one of the Tata Sumo drivers last December that travel between Kohima and Mao gate as they charged fare the double of its rate (Rs. 100). They took advantage as many passengers were rush to go home for Christmas. Again in the month of January this year from Mao Gate to Kohima charged the same rate as many people are coming back from village. We should collectively oppose any business establishment or activities taking the advantage of the situation. I came across similar accident many times.
Nagas are known for kindness, patient and considerate but it should not be at the cost of compromising the wrong things. Wrong practice or habit is like a communicable disease, it spread non-stop and should be treated quickly or it will be incurable later on. To correct or rectify the unwanted practice in our society is every citizen responsible especially the intellectual and educated people as the concern authority can't check everything and everywhere all the time. If we all take initiative in discouraging and non-compromising with the wrong habit and practice, it will instill in their mind the guilty conscience those who practice and certainly it will stop even in future too. We often talk of civic sense, honesty, good qualities etc. of others' land and why not in our own land let's wake up and do it as they are also human being not different species. Let us inculcate and encourage good habit as habit is not ready made but it created bit by bit and become habituated. I appealed to every citizen not be slow to correct a mistake that is prevailing in our society.
