Dimapur: Retired Director of School Education AS Rengma has been arrested for his alleged involvement in issuing bogus appointments in the Education department. The case is being monitored by the Crime Cell. Police sources said late this evening that he is presently lodged in the South Police Station, Kohima for safe custody and that he was brought in at around 5:30 in the evening. Interrogations are yet to be undertaken. He had earlier been called for questioning and was subsequently arrested.

His arrest comes in wake of the revelations made by Vikhiho, a teacher attached to the Directorate of Education in Kohima. Vikhiho was earlier arrested for the alleged role that he had played in the scam and upon being questioned had revealed that Rengma had signed the appointment letters of people seeking jobs in the Education department for monetary consideration. Rengma has been alleged of having signed about 40 bogus appointment letters.

Speaking to The Morung Express from an undisclosed location, Rengma said that discussions regarding the case would be held tomorrow. His tone of voice suggested that he was calm and self-composed. A reliable source displayed apprehensions that the issue may be politicized.
