Reyivolu Rhakho was conferred the KPC Impact Journalism Award 2025 during the National Press Day programme organised by the Kohima Press Club (KPC) at Hotel Japfü, Kohima, on November 16. The honour, instituted in 2020 to recognise professional excellence among journalists, is the only journalism award given annually in Nagaland.

The KPC Executive Council, which evaluates nominees’ work from the preceding year, selected Rhakho for her consistent accuracy, objectivity and ability to report across diverse beats. According to KPC President Alice Yhoshü, Rhakho’s reporting over the past year stood out for its breadth—from courts, sports and crime to socio-economic issues, gender features, agriculture, music and politics—often requiring travel to remote areas to gather first-hand information.

Rhakho, who entered journalism in 2018, said the award felt “assuring and validating,” recalling the demanding early years when reporters were required to cover every assignment under tight deadlines. She expressed gratitude to her editors, colleagues, family and friends, and said the profession had shaped her understanding of people and events.

Calling reporters “the legs and hands, ears and eyes” of the public, she said it remains essential to keep telling the stories of local communities, “even if they go unnoticed by the wider world.”
