A pair of Rhesus Macaques has been donated to Nagaland Zoological Park, Dimapur.

Dimapur, August 11 (MExN): A pair of Rhesus Macaques, once owned as pets by a family in Phek town has been donated to Nagaland Zoological Park, Dimapur.

Kiphire Wildlife Division, in a press release said that “upon receiving information via social media that a pair of primates being captivity bred under pitiable conditions by some individuals of Phek town,” a team from Kiphire Wildlife Division led by Wildlife Warden, M Limaba rushed to the District headquarters on August 8 to address the issue.

On investigation, the team located the primates and the owners and found the condition of the enclosure of the animals and their diet was “not as bad as portrayed in the media.” 

With assurance to the guardian that the pets will now be looked after by professionals in a better environment, the Kiphire Wildlife Division team handed over the pair to the Nagaland Zoological Park authorities.
