Nagaland Police Sports Battalion, local leagues, promotion of disability sports included

A ‘comprehensive sports vision’ was presented by the Chief Minister of Nagaland, Neiphiu Rio during the presentation of state budget for 2021-2022 at the 7th session of the 13th Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA) in Kohima on February 18.
We are in the process of formulating the masterplan for setting up a Nagaland Police Sports Battalion which will convert the present Police Sports Complex into a center for sporting excellence, the CM said.
This innovative new initiative is meant to create opportunities for the younger generation, ensure that Naga youth get vistas to be part of the worldwide multi-million dollar sports industry while elevating the prestige and reputation of Nagaland Police.
Some new areas the government will be promoting are adventure and sports tourism where sports events and tourism promotion will be linked, the CM said.
Nagaland and the North East are ideal for adventure and motor sports and since they are directly linked with tourism, the government will focus on this aspect as well.
Nagaland has been selected to host the biggest event of the national motor sports calendar due to our excellent past record in this sector; the CM said and added that the State will host the final leg and the grand finale of the Indian National Rally Championships. In November 2021, Indian motorsports will converge in Nagaland for an event that will draw the attention of the national and international media, he added.
Promotion of disability sports is a priority and we have already instituted a separate Committee under the Nagaland Olympic Association for Persons with Disabilities, he added.
He also mentioned that funds will be earmarked for sports academies in prioritised disciplines to be established in collaboration with the sports federations, and local leagues will be launched to create a positive atmosphere of sports culture that will contribute to the economy and create gainful careers in the sports and related industry.
