The picturesque dam site at the Doyang Hydel Project is all set to be converted into a major tourist attraction if Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio is to live up to his promise. The chief minister, during his recent weekend camping at the site, said the dam site is  urgently in need of  a tourist complex. He instructed Parliamentary Secretary in charge of Tourism, Yitachu, to initiate action at the earliest to set up one.

Besides, he has promised to complete the ongoing bridge over Chupi River at the Doyang dam within six months and volunteered to inaugurate it himself while also assuring to instruct the minister in-charge of Fisheries to work out a modality to boost mass-production of fish at the dam areas. This is to  help the fishing community of the area earn on a profitable scale.

Further, he assured to accord top priority to the early completion of the ongoing work on the Wokha-Merapani (Marachu) road pointing out that it is one of the important economic roads of the state.

The Chief Minister, along with several of his Cabinet colleagues, Parliamentary Secretaries, Chief Secretary and the former Chief Secretary, had spent last weekend camping at the site for a traditional fishing programme organised by the four legislators of Wokha district which was marked by sight-seeing, fishing, boating and a musical night over dinner.

Meanwhile, the Kyong Hoho has expressed immense satisfaction and gratitude to the Chief Minister and his entourage for visiting the site. The Hoho has also placed on record the recognition of Wokha district as an economic zone by the Chief Minister for the first time since Nagaland’s statehood asserting that this has been the long felt need of the district for speedy economic infrastructural development of roads and durable communication network which will ultimately benefit the people of the state in general.
