Mokokchung | July 22

A ten-member team of the Rising People’s Party (RPP) was camping in Mokokchung town after visiting Tzürangkong bordering Assam on July 22. The RPP leaders when asked if they were planning to plant their party functionaries in Mokokchung replied in the affirmative. RPP president Joel Naga said that they will make their presence felt in Mokokchung, further adding that they will set up their party units in all the districts of Nagaland.

“RPP would like to make a presence here. Mokokchung has 10 MLA seats and the people of Mokokchung are very aware of electoral politics,” he said. Signaling that RPP will be contesting the 2023 state assembly elections, Joel Naga appealed to the people of Mokokchung to repose their trust on RPP and elect their candidates “for the sake of the Naga people.”

Stating that RPP was for ushering change to the “election system” in Nagaland, the party claimed that the voters and the public now have the option to elect the right people. RPP claimed that while the old guards of the state electoral politics were “busy making money,” RPP was sowing seeds of “honesty and transparency” so that the future generations reap the benefits of democracy.

When asked what sets the party apart from other political parties, it was made clear that RPP does not have and would not use “money, power and force” to win elections but would rather call for open debates and let the people choose.

Commenting on the party’s prospects at the 2023 elections, RPP said that they will “bring real change” and that they have time on their side. “This is just the beginning. RPP will raise issues in the interest of the Naga people. We are empowering the people. The voters can make informed choice,” the RPP said.
