
Azo, Patton joins community fishing

Several people from the Nyiro range under Wokha district and Old Shena from Zunheboto district today joined the traditional community fishing programme at Doyang River (N/Longidang).
Minister for Roads and Bridges and parliamentary affairs Kuzholuzo (Azo) Nienu; minister for Forest and Border Affairs, Y. Patton including MLAs Picto, Dr. T.M. Lotha and Mhonlumo Kikon also joined the programme.
Minister for road & bridges Azo in his address assured to take up the road development work of Nyiro range and stated that it will be included in the priority list. In this, he asked the engineers to start preparing the estimates. He also stressed on the need to stick to workmanship and also to follow the specifications. Azo reminded the gathering that he will not compromise on quality of work.
Seven villages under the banner of Nyiro Range Village Councils requested minister for roads and bridges to take up the road development from Wokha- N. Longidang- Doyang- Old Shena to link up with Zunheboto and Satakha via Saptiqa. The memorandum stated that the development of this road will immensely benefit Zunheboto district and beyond like Kiphire and Phek district in future. The representation stated that the Nyiro range is economically backward due to lack of infrastructure development and other government amenities. Among them, the most basic need is road connectivity which is very poor. This road, which has a length of 21 km from Wokha district HQ to N. Longidang village and passing through 6 other villages of the area was developed way back in 1965-66 due to its potentiality in agriculture and horticulture produces. “However, this road still remains a fair weather road without any maintenance or up gradation,” it stated. Minister for Forest and Border Affairs, Patton also assured to take the matter for establishing EAC Circle at Nyiro during this tenure.
