Mon, December 2 (DIPR): Road safety awareness programme under the theme “Time for Action” was held on December 2 at District Executive Hall, Mon.
Yanithung Ngullie, (NCS) EAC Mon, speaking on the occasion as Chief Guest called upon one and all to drive carefully without risking the life of others. Most of the accident is happening because of not following the traffic rules and also due to ignorance of traffic rules by the drivers therefore, road safety awareness is very important for all the stakeholders, he added.
Er. Arenbo, Sr. Motor Vehicle Inspector, while giving his keynote address mentioned that, with strict enforcement, good engineering, education and efficient care service are essential for road safety enhancement.
Studies show that road accidents can be prevented if proper traffic rules are followed by the drivers and good maintenance of vehicles by the owners.
Education and enforcement should not only the responsibility of the government alone but NGOs, civil societies, village council and even the churches involvement is also necessary. All stakeholders should also support road safety campaigns and initiative and ensure safety of all road users and help save lives that could be yours and mine, he added.
Posehu Kezo, Officer-incharge, Police Station, Mon spoke on Road Safety Awareness & Traffic Rules, while Yuhwang, Vice-president Konyak Union and President, Drivers Union Mon also delivered short speeches.
The Road Safety awareness is an initiatives of road transport & Highways and Association of State Road Transport Undertaking and the programme is organised by Motor Vehicles Department.
