ROF condemns alleged harassment on NU Kohima Campus Pro-VC

Tseminyu, October 21 (MExN): The Rengma Officers’ Forum (ROF) has expressed resentment over the recent incident at Nagaland University Kohima Campus (NUKC), Meriema wherein the Pro-Vice Chancellor, NUKC, Prof GT Thong, who is also senior member of forum, was reportedly harassed by “some contractors and some group of local people over an issue non-release of bills by the University.”

ROF President, Er Chengato Kath and General Secretary, Er David Tsela in a press release stated that the Forum is deeply hurt by the treatment meted out to its member and strongly condemns the act of harassment and intimidation inflicted on a professional of such high esteem and repute. “Such incivility and lack of respect is uncalled for in dealing with administrative matters and have no place in the society especially in the campus of the University,” it stated.

The forum also stated “Interfering an official in the discharge of his official duties and acts of threatening and intimidation are not only unnecessary but also disgraceful, worth condemning by all right-thinking individuals and organizations.”

Further, ROF has appealed to the authorities concerned to take the matter into serious cognizance and take necessary and appropriate action against the miscreants as may be deemed fit by the authority so as to ensure that timely justice is served to the concerned officer with all fairness and dignity.

It also stressed that “no official or even individuals should be subjected to such unfounded and unjustified treatment and harassment so as to enable such highly esteemed and respected professionals and members of the society to function without duress or interference in the discharge of their duties in the best interest of the University and of the society; and for the University to function peacefully.”
