Longkhim Town Baptist Lithro conducted ‘Clean Election cum Mosaic of Praise’ on October 25 at Longkhim Town on the theme ‘Role of youth in politics’ with participants from various schools, churches, youths and citizens of Longkhim Town.
Speaking on the theme as the resource person, P. Achumse said, “the mess which has accumulated over the years is eroding the good governance and this is the reason why Clean Election and active participation of youth in politics is vital for re-structuring system. He also noted that ‘critical development effort cannot succeed without a legitimate and democratically elected government that is responsive and accountable to its citizens.’
Urging the youth to be sensible and responsible, he said for the system to change youth should have the audacity to take a stand against the corrupt electoral practices. It should refuse to be use as an agent of political tool for corrupt leaders. He further added that ‘youth participation is an important step towards empowerment and re-asserting the trampled voice.’
More than 700 citizens from various backgrounds took part in the programme where around 100 youth took Clean Election Pledge to desist from selling of vote and from electoral malpractices.
Koliba Sangtam, winner Naga Orphus Hunt and Sepongla, winner of Eastern Voice Hunt enthralled the gathering. Highlight of the Clean Election was delivered by Likhum, Associate Pastor Longkhim Town Baptist Lithro. Vote of thanks was given by Pastor Thsadongse Sangtam Longkhim Town Baptist Lithro.
