Dimapur, July 27 (MExN): The Rotary Club of Dimapur on Monday distributed baby care kits and nutritious food to mothers and children at the District Hospital in Dimapur as part of Rotary International's observance of Maternal and Child Health Month.
The programme, organised under the club's Women and Child Welfare Project, was led by Rotary Club of Dimapur President Pradeep Goel and Project Chairman Akokla Lucy Pongen.
Ten Rotarians participated in the initiative, distributing baby care kits and nutritious food to 20 mothers, 10 children and five newborns.
The programme was organised with the theme, "Welcoming Every New Life with Care, Love, and Hope," with the objective of providing practical support to mothers and promoting the health and well-being of newborns.
July is observed by Rotary International as Maternal and Child Health Month, one of its seven Areas of Focus, highlighting the need to ensure access to quality healthcare for mothers and children.
The organisation said maternal and child health remains a global priority, noting that millions of children under the age of five continue to die every year from preventable causes, many within the first month of life.
It said Rotary addresses these challenges through projects supporting maternal healthcare, child nutrition, immunisation, health education and access to essential healthcare services, adding that the Rotary Club of Dimapur will continue to undertake community service initiatives aimed at improving the health and well-being of families.
