Rotary DG visits Kohima, stresses ‘service above self’

Kohima, May 14 (MExN): Rtn Dr Kameswar Singh Elangbam, District Governor 2025-2026 of Rotary International District 3240, made an official visit to the Rotary Club of Kohima on May 12 and called upon Rotarians to align their service activities with Rotary’s core areas of focus while continuing to serve society with compassion, empathy and commitment.

He was accompanied by Rtn Rabinderjit Singh Panesar, District Polio Chair.

Addressing the members, Dr Elangbam observed that Rotary International District 3240 reflects the spirit of unity in diversity, bringing together people from different communities in the shared mission of ‘Service Above Self’.

Emphasising the need for social harmony, he urged the members to actively contribute as responsible citizens towards peace building and conflict resolution in society as responsible citizens.

Rotary Club of Kohima’s community service initiatives, including support to a children’s centre run by the Naga Mothers’ Association, a free tailoring unit for women, and teacher recognition under the literacy programme, was appreciated by the District Governor (DG) during his visit.

The DG particularly lauded the club’s assistance to the Cradle Ridge Children Centre, where the Rotary Club of Kohima has developed a fruit garden and continues to provide regular support for child welfare. He also commended the club’s Free Tailoring Unit, describing it as a meaningful step towards women empowerment and livelihood generation, noting that several women trained there are now independently supporting themselves and their families.

Further, the DG appreciated the club’s activities under the Basic Education and Literacy focus area, especially the recognition of teachers through the Nation Builder Award initiative. He reviewed various community service initiatives undertaken by the club and appreciated its sustained efforts towards social welfare and community development.

Earlier, the programme was chaired by Rtn Kevino Savino, President RCK while Rtn Thiala Chang officiated meeting call to order. Rtn Fr Innocent Panmei invoked God’s blessings while Ulikhrie Folk Group Chedema presented folk song. Felicitation of the visiting team was led by RCK president and Neingutuo Usou while Rtn Dr. Keneilhoulie Medom introduced the District Governor. Rtn Amongla C presented secretary report while vote of thanks was proposed by Rtn Pikato Jimo.
