Kohima, June 19 (MExN): The Rotary Water Management Project at Chiechama village constructed by Rotary Club of Kohima has been completed and will be inaugurated on June 23.
Chiechama village is situated about 30 km away from Kohima where no regular water supply is available, said Rtn. Kezhokhoto Savi, president Rotary Club of Kohima adding that recognizing the acute shortage of water supply in the village the Club have taken up the project under Rotary International Matching Grant, sponsored by the Rotary Club of Murietta, California and Rotary Club of Lake Elinore, California, USA.
Governor K. Sankaranarayanan will inaugurate the said project on June 23 at 11:00 AM. Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, who is also honorary member of the Rotary Club of Kohima will also grace the occasion as the guest of honour.
The Rotary Club of Kohima has taken up the project at Chiechama village so as to provide to as large section of the village as possible. The water storage and supply system constructed by the Club operates on two pumps, 2 hp and 10 hp respectively, that runs on electricity. The water collected is stored in two reservoirs. Two ring wells, each of which 40 feet deep, were dug to gain access to water.
Another ongoing project which is completed and will be inaugurated in July this year is the Rotary Kohima View Point with Safe Drinking Water located at Highway Traffic Control Room on NH-39 in the heart of Kohima Town, said Rtn Savi.
The project, he said, is totally sponsored by the Rotary Club of Kohima and the filter for drinking water by Alken. “The need for a small wayside amenity to rest and drinking water for school children and pedestrians has made the Club construct this project for citizens in the town,” said Rtn. Savi.
Further, as a part of the Club’s main concern for water management, women and youth, the Club is also planning to take up two major projects with sponsors Club from USA on deep tube wells for water scarcity in Kohima colonies and nearby villages, including a Rotary Rural Bank of Micro Crediting in 25 villages for women and youth in the near future, the release added.
