RPF NFR recover contraband items worth over Rs 23 lakh

Maligaon, September 6 (MExN): The Railway Protection Force (RPF) of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) recovered various contraband items worth more than Rs 23 lakh on August 31 and September 1. The contraband items including banned drugs, liquor, ganja, etc. were recovered during regular checks and drives at various stations and trains in the NFR zone and RPF also apprehended four persons for alleged involvement in transportation of contraband items, NFR spokesperson Guneet Kaur informed on Monday. 

In a press release, Kaur informed that on September, the RPF team of Badarpur jointly with GRP officials and local police of Badarpur conducted checking in train No. 03173 UP on arrival at Badarpur railway station.

During checking, they apprehended one person from the train and 21 soap cases inside a toy car frame were found from the person’s bag. The soap cases were packed with heroin. Later, the arrested person along with the seized drugs was taken to OC/Local PS, Badarpur for further investigation. Total weight of the seized drugs is 267 grams, worth about Rs 18.69 lakh, Kaur stated.

In another incident on September 1, RPF CPDS (Crime Prevention and Detection Squad) of Alipurduar while checking in train No. 05653 DN from Kalaigram – Dhupguri station, apprehended one person and recovered 26 bottles liquor, worth about Rs 8,155. The apprehended person along with the recovered liquor was handed over to OC/GRPS/New Maynaguri who registered a case u/s 46 Bengal Excise Act, the NFR Chief Public Relations Officer informed.

Meanwhile, RPF team of Dimapur while conducting check in train No. 05669 UP at Dimapur railway station against carrying of contraband goods, apprehended one person and recovered a bag containing 6 packets of Ganja, weighing about 12 kgs worth about Rs 1.20 lakh. The apprehended person along with the recovered Ganja was handed over to OC/GRPS/Dimapur for disposal, Kaur informed.

Another heist was made by the RPF Task Force and CIB of Tinsukia along with RPF team of Furkating Outpost on the same day when they conducted a joint checking in train No. 05669 UP at Furkating station. During checking, they apprehended one lady from coach No. A-1 and recovered 3 packets of Ganja (wrapped with plastic). The apprehended lady along with the recovered Ganja which weighed about 6.29 kgs and is estimated to be worth around Rs 62,900, was handed over to OC/GRP/Mariani who registered a case u/s 20 (b) (ii) (b) NDPS Act. 

Earlier on August 31, RPF team of Agartala in different checking conducted at Agartala railway station recovered unclaimed ganja weighing about 16 kgs worth about Rs 1.60 lakh. The recovered ganja was handed over to OC/GRP/Agartala for further necessary action. Further, in a similar incident, CIB team of RPF/Lumding conducted checking at Lumding railway station and recovered unclaimed ganja weighing about 8 kgs worth about Rs 80,000. The recovered ganja was handed over to OC/GRP/Lumding for disposal, Kaur stated.
