RPF-NFR recovers ganja worth Rs 2.70 lakh

Guwahati, February 20 (MExN): A team of Railway Protection Force (RPF) of Northeast Frontier Railway recovered 54 kilos of contraband ganja valued at Rs. 2.7 lakh  (approx) at RPAN (Rangapara) railway station on February 18.

 

It was recovered when the RPF team comprising CIB, CPDS and officials from RPF post of Rangapara North under Rangiya division conducted a drive to detect illegal transportation of contraband goods by trains “acting on reliable information,” informed a press release from FR CPRO Subhanan Chanda.

 

During drive RPF team 6 unclaimed bags were found lying on platform number 1 and the team made all-out efforts in and around the Rangapara station to trace out the involved person/persons, but could not succeed, it said.

 

The bags were later were seized, and upon investigation found to each contained ganja weighing about 6 Kgs, 6 Kgs, 7 Kgs, 9 Kgs, 13 Kgs & 13 Kgs respectively, for an overall  total 54 Kgs, it added.

 

 

The entire recovered items were handed over to Inspector/Excise/Rangapara under acknowledgement, after adopting all the legal formalities for further course of action, the release said.

 

 

The RPF has been successfully conducting raids and recovering narcotics and smuggled items and in 2019,  as many as 242 cases of illegal smuggling of such contraband items worth more than Rs. 6.1 crore  were detected resulting in arrest of 64 persons, it added.
