RPF seizes narcotics worth over Rs 5.35 Cr, 20 arrested

Maligaon, June 1 (MExN): In a series of intensified operations aimed at curbing the transport of contraband through railway routes, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) apprehended 20 individuals and recovered narcotics worth more than Rs 5.35 crore during the first half of May 2025.

According to the Chief Public Relations Officer of NFR, Kapinjal Kishore Sharma, one of the most significant seizures took place on May 7 at Guwahati Railway Station. A female passenger aboard Train No. 12516 (Silchar–Coimbatore) was arrested by a joint team of RPF Guwahati and Panbazar Police Station after 20,000 YABA tablets—estimated to be worth Rs 5 crore—were recovered from her possession. The accused and the seized contraband were handed over to Panbazar Police Station, and a case was registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

Earlier, on May 3, RPF personnel from the Agartala post, in coordination with the Government Railway Police (GRP) Agartala, intercepted two individuals at Agartala Railway Station. The team seized 22.775 kg of ganja valued at around Rs 2.27 lakh. The suspects were taken into custody and a case was registered under the NDPS Act.

“These operations underscore NFR’s unwavering commitment to combat the menace of narcotics smuggling through the railway network,” Sharma stated, adding that the RPF will continue surveillance and enforcement to ensure passenger and railway premises security.
