RPF/NFR detect 11 contraband smuggling cases in April

Maligaon, May 21 (MExN): The Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) detected 11 cases of smuggling and recovery of contraband items in the month of April.

During the last three years (upto April 2021) a total of 744 cases of smuggling of contraband items were detected by RPF, according to the NFR’s Chief Public Relations Officer Subhanan Chanda.

Chanda stated in a press release that one such case was detected on April 11 wherein, officials of the Crime Investigation Bureau of RPF Guwahati jointly with Crime Prevention and Detection Squad team conducted surprise check of parcel packages at Parcel Gate No 02 of Guwahati railway station.

During the surprise check they apprehended one person namely, Krishna Sahu (30) and recovered three packages without any booking marks, containing 15 cartons of foreign cigarettes. 

The apprehended person failed to produce any documents for possessing/carrying the recovered cigarettes and disclosed that he had brought those cigarettes for sending to Howrah by train. Later, the apprehended person along with the recovered cigarettes was handed over to Superintendent of Customs (Anti smuggling), Guwahati Division, and a case was registered on the same day. Value of the recovered cigarettes is Rs 7, 50,000 approximately, it added.
